On Saturday November 22, from 1-3pm – Water & Earth exhibiting artist May Ellen Beattie will lead this workshop for ages 8-adult, demonstrating some of the methods of working with plastic and other recycled materials that she uses in her artwork. Participants will be able to try different approaches, make functional artistic objects, or just play and experiment with the materials.
Materials and instruction will be provided but participants are encouraged to bring plastic bags (especially colored ones) from home along with their own ideas to share. Participants will upcyle the often one-time-use plastic shopping and grocery bags into REUSABLE items: baskets and bags and more.
In response to the Call to Protect Our Fragile Ecosystem, the workshop gives participants an opportunity to rethink how plastic is used and discarded in our culture. Inspired by Co-curator Sarah Sutro’s travels to Bangladesh, The exhibit highlights Bangladesh and the country’s creative use of everyday materials to create shopping bags.
Space is limited, and pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to register for this fun, family-friendly workshop.
